ESSE Adult Day Care Centers
Ecumenical Support Services for the Elderly
Our History:
ESSE was founded as a not-for-profit Corporation of Illinois on April 22, 1982, by nine Glen Ellyn church congregations to provide Adult Day Care services for the elderly. ESSE started with one location in Glen Ellyn and has since added two Wheaton locations. Today 30 churches are supporters of ESSE (to visit websites of these supporting churches churches click on the green button below. Our Mission:
To provide adult care options that promote the physical, emotional, and spiritual well being of older adults and their families.
ESSE Logo:
The ESSE tree logo symbolizes continuing life, growth, and fruitfulness throughout all life. "... in old age they will still produce fruit and be vital and green" Psalm 92:14. The Latin word esse, meaning "to be", is indicative of the purpose of adult day center activities and services. We want our participants to be the best they can.
Company Profile:
ESSE is a not-for-profit organization, as are most adult day cares in the area. ESSE is supported or subsidized by a combination of local churches, community donations, client fees, memorials, service clubs, special grants and a state contract. ESSE serves clients from all surrounding communities.
Adult Day Care Centers in our area refer clients to each other and provide networking for families to access other support services as needed. We provide day care services for the socially isolated, moderately handicapped or frail older adult. ESSE and other Adult Day Care Centers offer opportunities for socialization and recreation for the senior plus respite for their caregivers.
3-ESSE Locations:
In 1982 ESSE began with one Adult Day Care Center in Glen Ellyn at Faith Lutheran Church. A second site was opened in central Wheaton in 1995 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church. A third site was added in 2002 in north Wheaton at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
In 2009 the ESSE site at Holy Cross moved to the Community Baptist Church in Warrenville
These 3 churches generously donate their space so that ESSE can serve the area's senior adult population and their caregivers with quality, economical Adult Day Care. At each of these sites ESSE offers the same services. Clients may attend any of the 3 ESSE Adult Day Care Locations. (if that location has an opening)
ESSE Staff:
Cathy Davit, Executive Director of ESSE, manages the three site locations of ESSE. She is assisted by 3 Program Managers and 15 Activity Assistants at these three locations.
