Meet Mary Lou.
Mary Lou is a very intelligent lady. Scabble is her game, which she plays on the computer. She has always enjoyed being aroung children, raising five of her own. She even chose to work in a school, again to be around children.
After her diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, her family took care of her until it became too much for them. That's when her son stepped in. He had read and heard a lot about adult day care, and signed his mother up at ESSE. Mary Lou hated coming here. She was very reluctant to leave home, and it took a while for her to adjust. To help her cope with this new change in her life, she started bringing her crochet projects with her.
Perhaps it was the visits of school children and pets (she'd always had a dog), or the sing-a-longs that changed her mind. Whatever it was, Mary Lou is now quite comfortable at ESSE. She still brings her crochet with her, completing another afghan every two weeks. Not needing so many herself, she donates them to the refugees at World Relief, even making smaller versions for the babies there. Though Alzheimer's disease continues to steal her memory, Mary Lou has found a way to give back for all the blessings she's had in her life.
