Meet Vera.
Nobody wants to think of themselves as old. Nobody wants to go to adult day care and feel useless, set aside, gotten out of the way. That's exactly how Vera felt-there was no way she was going to ESSE - no way!
Vera's daughter, Donna, must have ingerited Vera's tenacity, because there was no way that she was going to leave Vera home alone day after day, with nothing to keep her entertained but the televition. There was no way that Donna was going to sit back and watch while her mother spent her solitary, sedentary days in front of the TV. There was no way she was going to sit back while her vibrant mother gave herself up to ennui.
A social worker recommended ESSE, and somehow Donna was able to convince Vera to give us a try. The result? Vera started attending ESSE full-time, five days a week, and won't miss a day. She calls us her "school". She is enjoying craft projects, bingo, Bunko and the morning coffee and current events. She was even named Prom Queen at the ESSE Senior Prom, and loves to wear her tiara and sash. Not only is Vera benefitting from the activities and socialization, but Donna says ESSE has been an indescribable help to her as well. No longer is she pre-occupied at work worrying about her mother's well-being. She knows Vera is well taken care of at ESSE.
